Metric is our iPhone and Android app that lets you track your response data — opens, clicks, shares and opt-outs — on the go. Pull it up in a meeting or during a conversation to quickly and easily share your marketing efforts with co-workers and pals. Because all pals are into percentages, right?

What goes into the mailing score?

To calculate your mailing score, we factor in open rate, click-through rate, shares percentage, opt-out percentage and signup percentage along with the use of split testing to calculate a number on a 10-point scale.

On what is the average based?

To calculate the Emma average, we analyzed a large sample from the millions of mailings sent through Emma. The averages for each category across open rate, click-through rate, shares percentage, opt-out percentage and signup percentage contribute to the mailing score average, which is a 7.0 on a 10-point scale.

How can I raise the mailing score?

Since the mailing score is a reflection of a handful of metrics, the path to a higher score is better performance in those metrics. The surest way to increase your score is to use our split testing feature, which beyond bumping up your score will also likely contribute to a higher open rate. With our split testing feature, you can test up to three subject lines with a portion of your audience and let us send the best-performing one to the remainder of your recipients.

What open rate should I expect?

The industry average open rate is about 20-25%. The Email Stat Center provides stats on all kinds of response averages.

How can I turn on push notifications on my iPhone?

Open your Settings app, and go to Notification Center —> Metric. Then set the alert style to Banners or Alerts.

I forgot what this mailing looks like. Can I see it from Metric?

You can — Scroll to the bottom of the report, and you’ll see an arrow pointing up. Scroll up and release to view the webview.

Why doesn’t the footer with the opt-out and other information appear in the webview?

Since the webview isn’t tied to any one email address, no one can opt out of it. We’ve removed that bit of the footer here to prevent confusion.

Why doesn't my mailing look great on mobile?

Your mailing is optimized for mobile viewing if you’re using a template from Emma’s template gallery or a template our Design Team created for you after May 1, 2013. If your mailing doesn’t seem to be adjusting, you can reach out to our Design Team through the design form to have your template revised so that it’s responsive.

How can I take a screenshot on my phone to send it to a colleague?

We've built sharing a sharing capability into the app. You'll find a share icon in the top right corner of your screen when viewing your mailing response (Shown below on an Android. It looks a little different on an iPhone).


You can can access sharing options from there, or you can press the home and sleep buttons at the same time to take a screenshot. Your screen will flash, and you'll hear a camera shutter flash. The screenshot will be stored in Photos under Camera Roll. You can tap it to send to your colleague.

Why can't I get logged in?

To log into Metric, use your Emma username and password. If you're still having trouble logging in, double-check that your username and password are correct, as they're case-sensitive. You can reset your password at, if need be.

What iOS and Android versions are supported?

We support iOS version 7.1.2 and up and Android 4.0 and up.

For our Emma HQ accounts

I have an Emma HQ login. How do I set up Metric for my own account or for my clients?

To set up Metric for yourself or a client, you'll need to log in with the client-level Emma username and password. If you don't have these credentials handy, just click the Menu button on your Emma HQ home page, select Accounts and click View account settings from the dropdown menu to the right of any account name. You'll find the username listed under "Client info," and you can reset the password there if needed.

Why am I getting an error that I can't authenticate with an admin-level login?

The login you use needs to be for a specific subaccount, not your admin credentials. Try logging in as your client instead.


How do I know the login to use?

  1. When logged into your account at the admin level, click the Menu button at the top-right of your account.
  2. Click Accounts.
  3. Click the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the account whose login credentials you want to check, and select to view its settings.
  4. Scroll to the Client Access section. The username and password here are the username and password you'll use to log into Metric.

Note: If your Emma HQ subaccount's username is set up to have limited access -- meaning they can only see the Response page in their account -- Metric will not work for them. They need to have Full or Administrator permissions to access Metric.

Do you have a white-label version of Metric for resellers?

No, the current version of Metric has Emma branding.
