How to use Abandoned Cart content

If you'd like to go a more custom route when creating your abandoned cart email, we give you the tools to build a mailing from scratch and populate the abandoned cart data using personalization tags. Similar to how you can bring in your customer's first name using a personalization tag, checkout data can be brought into a mailing using the event tag. Take a look below at the list of information that can be brought in to your mailing and the tag you'd use for it.

Tag Description
[% event:total_cost %] Total cost of the cart formatted as a number.
[% event:total_cost_text %] Total cost of the cart formatted as text using the currency of the cart.
[% event:subtotal %] Cost of the cart before shipping and taxes formatted as a number.
[% event:subtotal_text %] Cost of the cart before shipping and taxes, formatted as text using the currency of the cart.
[% event:total_tax %] Total cost of taxes formatted as a number.
[% event:total_tax_text %] Total cost of taxes formatted as text using the currency of the cart.
[% link:event:cart_url name=”cart” %] URL used to get back to the abandoned cart. This is used in conjunction with a tracked link tag. Dynamic links must have a name included in the tag.
[% foreach event:items as item %]

[% endforeach %]
List of items in the cart. Use the foreach tag to iterate over each item in the cart.
foreach tags must be used inside an HTML block.

When iterating over the items list with a foreach tag, the following item data is also available:

Tag Description
[% item:title %] The title of the product combined with the title of the product variant title.
[% item:quantity %] The number of products in the cart for this item.
[% item:price %] Price of a single item formatted as a number.
[% item:price_text %] Price of a single item formatted as text using the currency of the cart.
[% item:image_url %] The URL for the product’s image if available, if the product does not have an image associated with it a default image will used.

Item tags should only be used between foreach and endforeach tags inside an HTML block. The html inside the foreach tags will be printed once for each item in the list of items for the cart.

Creating a list of cart items

  1. Drag an HTML block into your campaign
  2. Hover over the block and click "Edit HTML"
  3. Insert the event personalization tags for cart items listed above. One example is shown below:
<div>
[% foreach event:items as item %]
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<img alt="[% item:title %]" src="[% item:image_url %]" style="width: 140px; height: auto; display: block"/>
</td>
<td>
    [% item:title %]
  </td>
<td>
    [% item:quantity %]
  </td>
<td>
    [% item:price_text %]
  </td>
</tr>
</table>
[% endforeach %]
</div>

Adding a View Cart button

If you're looking to add a customized button that will take the contact right back to their cart, follow these steps:

  1. Drag a button block into your mailing

  2. Configure the styling of the button by clicking on it to access text, color, and shape options
  3. Set the URL of the block to: [% link:event:cart_url name="cart_url" url_only="true" %]
