The Emma for WordPress plugin allows you to add a signup form for your Emma audience as a widget or a shortcode on your WordPress site.

	There are known issues with the Emma for Wordpress plugin.
	The original makers of this integration deprecated it completely in 2018. No updates have been made to it since. Installing this plugin is entirely at the user's discretion and risk. The Emma Support team cannot troubleshoot any issues that may arise from using it.

Adding the Emma for WordPress Plugin

You will need your Emma account ID and API key pair in order to set up this integration. If you have not generated an API key pair, follow the instructions in the linked article to do that now.

	If you have a tiered account, then you will need the subaccount ID, not the parent account ID, in order to set up the integration.

 

1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard and select Plugins from the left panel.
2. Locate the Emma for Wordpress plugin and click on Settings.
3. Click on the Account information tab and enter your account ID (subaccount ID for tiered accounts), public API key, and private API key.
4. Optional: In the "Signup ID" field, enter the ID of an existing form in your Emma account.
5. If you'd like the form to send a plaintext confirmation email, check the "Yes" box.
6. Click on the Select a group dropdown and select the group that you'd like to form to add contacts to. This step is listed as optional, but skipping it will cause an error when the form is used.
7. Click on the Form setup tab.
8. Use the radio button menu to select which fields you'd like to include on your form.
9. Use the options to set your form width, placeholders, and confirmation messages. Once you're done, click on the Save button.
10. Click on the Form customization tab.
11. Use the options to adjust the form layout, style, and button settings. Once you're done, click on the Save button.
12. Click on the Advanced settings tab.
13. If desired, paste the code for a tracking pixel into the box and click on the Save button.

Activating the Form on Your Website

After following the steps above, you'll need to activate the form on your website. This can be done in two different ways.

Widget

If you'd like to add the form to a widget area, you'll need to follow these steps:

1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard and select Appearance from the left panel.
2. Click on the Widgets section.
3. Locate the "Emma for Wordpress Subscription Form" widget and click on it.

Shortcode

If you'd like to add the form to another area of your site, you can use the Emma shortcode. Simply type [emma_form] in the HTML view of the post editor.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Emma for Wordpress Plugin

Since this plugin is no longer supported by the developer, are there any other form integrations that I could use?

Yes, there are several other signup form integrations that you may be able to use.

 

Can I use multiple forms with this plugin?

No, you can only use a single signup form with the Emma for Wordpress plugin. For more signup form options, you can utilize the signup form builder or try out a lightbox form, both of which are included with your Emma account.

 

Can I set up an automated workflow using my WordPress form?

Yes, you can trigger a workflow when:

• Someone subscribes to a specific group from a specific signup form (both configured on the WordPress site). In order to trigger an automation from a specific signup form, you'll need to specify, in WordPress, the signup ID associated with that form in Emma. You'll find that on the published page of the signup form. Then, in Emma's automation, you'll need to choose the same signup form.
• Someone subscribes to a specific group from any signup form (also both configured on the WordPress site).
• Someone subscribes to any group from any signup form.

You cannot trigger a workflow when:

• No group is specified in your WordPress plugin. Although that field isn't required, we always recommend specifying a group so your contacts are added to a place where you can easily send to them.
• You don't have any groups in your account, which won't allow you to activate the plugin.

✎	Note
	If you've made changes to your form, you may need to remove the form from the pages where it's located and re-add it in order for the new settings to take effect and trigger the automation.

 

Can contacts opt back in using an Emma for Wordpress form?

No, they cannot. There is currently no way for opted out contacts to resubscribe using a form that was created through the API or an integration. Opted out contacts must use an Emma form to resubscribe.

 

Who do I contact for help if the plugin doesn't work as intended?

The Emma for Wordpress plugin is not supported or maintained by Emma, as it is a third-party integration. As a result, contacting our Support team about this will not be helpful. Unfortunately, the plugin has not been maintained (as noted above), therefore, it is most likely not compatible with the most recent versions of Wordpress and should be used with caution. As for whom to contact for help with this plugin, there does appear to be a Help tab with the option to post to a forum after you log in to your Wordpress site.
